Re: Now what?

James, you know what you said about "if you kill this crazy, another one will step in"? The same thing was said about Sadaam. We didn't touch him, yet now we have Ossama bin Laden....crazier and wealthier. Is he responsible for this? I don't know. But yes, we need to wipe whomever is responsible, and their factions off the face of this earth. Remember, when we got the bin Laden guys that bombed the WTC before, all we did was bring them to trial and jail them. That certainly didn't stop them. We need to take out their money source and the brains behind the operation. Just slapping their writsts with cuffs aint gonna do it this time. I know it's wrong to harbour hate in my heart for the persons responsible for this act, but at this moment, I do. We need to kill these fucks, and show that the USA will not tolerate this shit any longer. Period.
Just MHO.

If you give a mouse a cookie...

I think something needs to be done. Certainly not war or other types of vengeance. I'm thinking, if the truth leads to an organization, that organization needs to be shut down. It might create martyrs or provoke revenge, but if you give a mouse a cookie...
And last I checked the United States didn't negotiate with terrorists...
Bush made a speech basically saying they weren't going to get away with this. I don't know if those were just words or not, but I hope our government does not overreact. If we really are the superior nation, as our enemies seem to think we think we are (follow me?), than we should act one.

Re: Three Co-incidences..

I haven't read every reply to this post but I have three co-incidences
1) The Live Album Cover art
2) The date of release and
3) Exactly a year ago to the day I flew into NY and stayed 20 blocks from the carnage - pray for those poor innocent people - a year ago it could have been me.

Progressive rock has been the sound track to my life

Re: Three Co-incidences..

I am in agreeing with Rushie . The one thing that scares me the most about this whole ordeal is that it might send the populus into a mass panic . If this happens the terrorists have succeeded . We will get through this by going through our daily routine and only let us effect us in positive ways .
the US gov't just can't attack someone for this . It must be investagted and the right people should be brought to justice .
there is no need for brash reatialiation .

Re: Three Co-incidences..

I'm in New Jersey which is directly between all the huge metropolises and I have felt the impact from both sides. I have family up near NYC and it feels extremely weird having my family that close to the area of terrorism. Everytime I went there I'd look up and see the NY skyline and see the Twin Towers....that is now a distant memory for me. NY will never be the same to me and probably a ton of others. I never thought of the day when something like this could happen so close to me and it was even scarier when they started closing places in Philly which is a few miles away from me. I am blown away. Not scared or anything, but more just lost in this reality that I never thought could be this real. Whoever did this...I think we should wipe them off the face of the planet. I'd like to see the US make an example out of a country and make sure no one in that country lives to see the next day. It's time for us to show our power and enforce what will be better for the rest of the world.

Eayste...
To a certain extent I agree. BUT...the goverment via airline dockets - documentation etc. will have a 99+ % idea within 72 hours...
72 hours...to plan
72 hours...to rally world support
Within 3 days we will see a trail of destruction not yet seen by man. IF we don't stop these terrorist acts this time they will continue...and continue...and continue.
Stop it now before there is biological warfare or before they start poisoning water supplies one city at a time.
So sure...do an investigation. But don't return to the same mistake made at the end of the Gulf War (not destroying Bhagdad and Saddam)...
Bottom line...if the U.S. and the entire "democratic" world doesn't take a stand and send the strongest message possible we a doomed as a civilization. STOP IT NOW!!!

Sorry aboot that Scarlet....

It was Rushaholic who asked how often you can give blood...and that was my answer....every 56 days, or 8 weeks.
I used to give blood every time I became eligible again....and I'm POSITIVE it's every 56 days.
Don't donate anymore cause of the tatoos.

Hope this is what you wanted.
Hope this is what you had in mind.
Cuz this is what you're getting.

ok , But I only feel that force is necessary if we are backed by the other world powers. Including Russia and China.
It's like at old school when a bully picks on kids. he's just hated for it until he has a blow to him . Then he rallies for those damages done . Then more hate and retalation takes place. violince just breeds more violence. When the US attacks a country it plants more seeds for others to want to attack us. These criminals should be caught if possible and brought to justice. Just like the Japanese and Nazi's after WW2.

Re: Sorry aboot that Scarlet....

When I was working to organize blood drives on my college campus, the max frequency was every 8 weeks, up to a max of 5x per year...so you are right, MG.
As far as the payback on this, I suggest only that it be done as soon as it can be done right. The people of the US, and the friends of the US around the world, will not wait too long....
But justice must be against the perpetrators and their hosts....we cannot go off half cocked. And we can't have a military operation that fails, like some helicopter rescues in the desert did some few years back. And it must be done in a big enough way that they know...we're not messing around.
An operation of the magnitude required involves some risk.....more lives may be lost. Will the people have to will to accept those losses in the effort to bring justice?
And the political path must be paved as well. Some of the genius of Desert Storm was the way in which world opinion was rallied in favor of the operation....and that it was done quickly, cleanly, and sucessfully. The circumstances here are different....we probably won't be going after a rogue nation with standing armies....so it will not be nearly so clean. Therefore we must do it well in all other regards.
But do it we must!!!

True...but again wasn't the REAL end of WWII after the nuking of Hiroshima and Nagaski (sp)...the rest cleanup?
I'm NOT saying to use nukes...that's the last thing we should do. I agree violence does in fact breed violence...but to use your analogy...
...if the biggest kid on the block just kicks the living SHIT out of someone and sends them to the hospital - barely alive - the rest of the kids will hesitate before they throw the next punch. ( this was NOT done in the Gulf war)
China will not align with Afghanistan other than mere political posturing...the US economy FEEDS China...
Russia may posture as well but in the end will bow because they are SOOOO weak economically...
What I expect is 72 hours of political posturing before the bully has got to send someone near death to the hospital.
FYI...I ALWAYS prefer peace before war - compromise before mandates...but this time it has gone too far...

I had to go to work today, and considering it's a job dealing with the public... it was very odd indeed.
I don't know that I've ever felt this way as an American....
I feel like nothing will ever be the same again. I've felt like
crying all day long but am too emotionally exhausted, I think.

WTC

Each and every being who have played a role, as minor as it can be, in this should be punished.
And justice is not the right punishment. That's what we did here with Maurice 'Mum' Boucher (Hell's Angels leader). He's in jail and he still runs his operation. I'm sure he sees positive sides of it like not having to care for his own security.
It's not a simple terrorism attack. The World Trade Center, the Pentagon (and the White House which was a target) are 3 of the bigger and most important symbols of the USA power and also pride. These targets were choosed to send a message that the American (and others) way of life, power, suppremacy, etc. is not untouchable.
A couple of slap on their asses and a "Go to your room (cell) and think about what you did" won't do the job this time. We can't accept that a message like this is being gived without giving serious punishments. We can't accept that the World's economy and 'stability' is being pushed around like this without having a high price to pay.
And above all, this message and these kinds of attaks can't be sent by killing thousands and thousands of innocent people with us staying there and saying "No, we don't want to make anymore innocents victims. We'll feed the responsibles of this attack for the rest of their lives and make the victim's family pay for them.".
Unfortunately, it could costs other innocents peoples live and it surely will, but fuck it still needs to be done and well done. All these people who woke up on a normal day, went for a normal day of work to feed their family... their innocent deaths needs to be venged.
And I hope everyone here is fine and that no one losts anyone close to them in this fucking shit ( I didn't read every thing). I won't pray, but I'll cry and punch a couple of walls to let the anger go out for you.

We will over come all of this. I belive (like lance said above) once the shock is over with we will be back on our feet. Once that happens, I hope the USA whipes them off the face of the earth. The US will move on from this. Everyone will go on with their lives even though a day like today will be unforgoton for the rest of our lives. God himself will provide that for us, I know he will.

Re: WTC

I'm worried that in the face of horror we are not giving enough credit to the goodness and intelligence of the American people. We are a country full of pride and above all lovers of freedom. I think that most of us would do whatever it took to preserve our way of life, including laying down our lives.
I was struck by the incredible acts of heroism today. 800+ fireman are "missing" tonight because they rushed into a burning building that was tenous at best, to help other human beings. I believe these people gave their lives, not for an hourly wage, but because of their love of humanity. I did not see anyone looting or shooting each other as is always portrayed in furturistic apocalyptic tales. We are, by in large, good people.
I was moved to tears at one point by the simple act that there was such an outpuring across the country of people to give blood, that being the only way they could help. They had too many volunteers today. And here in southern Cal where we have some state of the art search and rescue teams, they were getting on a military transport with tons of special equipment, to go and lend their expertise to our brothers and sisters in New York. Many of them were fighting back tears at the thought of all their kin firefighters who had already given up their lives. still, they were setting out to risk their own.
This all gives me hope in humanity. Although there are some very evil peope in the world, there are far more good ones. I am prouder than ever to be an American.

incoherent ramblings from me

forgive me, this day began as the one I was going to get to sleep in on. heh heh, riiiiiight. Tired, though, but still quite awake.
Ron, James: fears that retaliation will only make things worse, fears that a martyr situation could be even more potent (actually, I'm on the fence on that one -- I think the martyr is awfully useful alive and with deep pockets)... these I big-time share but they're sure not all.
Like poofy, my "other job" is dealing with the public. well, renting them movies actually. Business was quite brisk because no one could take it any more, assured that we weren't going to die right this minute they just wanted something distracting and please, please, not too serious.
We had a surprisingly (or is it?) large number of "those of Middle Eastern descent" in this evening, as that truncated APB of earlier put it. I found myself even more frightened for them than for anyone else, danger's a lot more immediate if it's drinking itself into a scared stupor at a local bar you know. But all I could do was say "take care, really."
Conspiracy theories were discussed between me and he who I was workin with. I understand that news that can be made public right this second is pretty vague, but I do believe that there's been a contradiction or two, in which case that is just FUCKED UP.
Case in point: I swear to god that when I saw the plane crashed in PA earlier, they showed it. A crumpled plane in a very green place near many trees. But quite recognizably a plane even still.
Later the site of what was supposedly the crash was shown, but this one was a crater and they say that nothing bigger than a phone book was in the debris?? I know I'm tired, and I know I was working, but I really don't think I'm hallucinating the two VERY DIFFERENT images.
If I'm not imagining the discrepancy, this makes me wonder two things: firstly, does this mean that in fact a plane DID also crash near Camp David, which they earlier categorically denied? Second, that there was such teeny tiny debris and a crater tends to point to the likelihood, as the other half of my X-Files team points out, that the plane was in fact shot down.
Would the government really think we couldn't handle their shooting down a plane of civilians for such a reason??? Because used to warfare and terrorism on our own turf or not, WE COULD. Lies and obfuscations, no, now that we could not take.
That is the main point that is making me feel the queasiest.
It was very creepy watching Bush's speech in which he theoretically was addressing America, but SO OBVIOUSLY WAS NOT. Rarely has such a thing been so apparent.
Governor Swift here was taking a lot of shit for it from the press, but was likewise being ironclad that all business will continue as usual tomorrow, in that we refuse to allow the portion of terrorism relating to terror and not actual damage take effect. That, and she went on to praise Massachusetts at large (and yeah, it was actually due -- which is so nice and so rare -- and we're lucky enough to be able to be able to send tons of doctors, nurses, firemen and policemen to NYC).
Bombing of Aghanistan? I need to look into this one now. Actually, I'm willing to believe this isn't necessarily the US at this time -- this is a primo opportunity for anyone who wants to do so to take a shot.
Lastly, it has occurred to me further and sunk my heart more and more, no matter how selfishly, that I really can't yet swear that no one I know was on any of the planes out of Boston. Let us say I know an awful lot of people, many very dear to me (even if I'm more casual about keeping up with friends than many are), and many of whom travel a lot.
Half of my family are still in Iceland. They don't know when they'll be home. Truth, I'm sure they're better off than anyone else just about anywhere. But it's still tough.
As Rose asked, "Doesn't it feel weird to know that all these people were in your city this morning?" Not to put to fine or rude a point on it, but.... DUH. Very frickin weird.
PS That sounds like a jet overhead now (again)... much higher and not so upsettingly low and rapid as most of the obviously military planes that have been zapping around here much of the day. What this means, I have no fucking clue.

Re: WTC

I know what you mean, Papa. As I said earlier, they were
turning people away at my local Red Cross.
I know we will come out stronger in the end. But it's still very upsetting. If you have a heart at all you have to be sad.
I can't even imagine some of the things the people on those planes and in the building had to go thru.........
Today in Metro Detroit (as far as we know) there were no
major accidents, murders, road rage incidents, looting, general insanity such as which is seen every day here. Unless it's not been reported yet........I'm getting a very strange feeling of calm and unity in my area, anyway.......
prayers.
