Re: World Trade Center

One more note....
In the event of a national security breach, there are 2 aircraft that are outfitted to serve as flying millitary bases where the President can orchasrate a war from air. One of those aircraft is stationed at Wright-Patt. It departed Wright-Patt about 4 hours ago. Also, Wright-Patt would be a likely candidate for a safe house for the president in such a situation. Hmmm....

"That's the densest population of Arab Americans in the U.S., and the blacks in Detroit are out headhunting. I don't know if this is true, cuz only national news is broadcasting, not local news. I absolutely expected that to happen."
I find this statement to be very narrow minded.

That the black population would perpetrate a riot against the arrabic population (when the black population has no more reason to hate the arrabic population than anyone else), is a VERY narrow-minded idea. That a riot would start in Dearborn (which DOES have the largest arrabic population outside of the middle-east) is hardly inconceivable, in fact, I'd call it PROBABLE. People are stupid, and all it takes is one major disaster and blame placed upon an ethnic group for labels, incantations and social unrest to begin.

Re: World Trade Center

I agree it could happen...
After Pearl Harbor everyone with any remote connection to Japan was basically imprisoned. We can't afford to have the general population acting alone based out of initial anger...
...that's what the terrorists' WANT...do not bow to thier level. The cowards time will come...there will be justice. Let's not destroy our own country in the process...

Re: World Trade Center

we'll get through this . What really teed me off on this is that someone acually had the gall to say it was worse than WW2 .
I would really like to meet that person and punch them in the nose.
They must have no idea how bad WW2 was. don't get me wrong . This is a tragedic event in itself and I would hate to say it but it was bound to happen .
While I do feel for those the died and may be suffering this will only make US stronger.

Exactly. I just said the same thing in Chat w/ GC, Darube, Pentagoonieee, and Chewie. This may be a blessing in disgiuse. When the shock wears off, we will be stronger and more unified, for a common cause. We will be a stronger nation.

Scarlet,

Quote:

We are after all the closest major city to both NY and DC.

You are from Boston, right? Philly is actually closer to both cities, and Baltimore is the closest major city to DC
Anyway, is there a blood shortage in DC? I know there isn't as big of a death toll there as in New York... Also, how long must one wait before giving blood? I gave blood in, I think, mid August... I'd imagine they'd love to have some of my O negative blood though...

Re: Scarlet,

The skies are blue. Normally, on any given day here, when there is no cloud cover, there will always be the 'cloud' streaks left by airplanes passing over. Not today. Frighteningly blue.

Blood Shortage

It has been a long time since I donated....O pos here....but I donated frequently in college and thereafter. I'd love to find the nearest center to me, 'cause I'd be happy to do it now.

Oh, is Philly closer to NY?

Sorry, I don't count Baltimore as "major". My bad.
I'm pretty sure you can safely give blood about once a week, depending on how healthy you are and how well you eat.
I don't believe they have the shortages YET, they're trying to keep them from happening. There are A LOT of people injured in NY, on the news here they're saying the most useful thing any of us here can do right now (this attempt at mustering attendance at a small election notwithstanding) is to give blood. DC, One Just Doesn't Know, but it's surely likely to be an issue in NY.
I can't fucking believe that I have to head into my extremely non-essential place of additional employment, but oh yes, I do. Not that I can do much besides hold my mom's hand, and be weirded out at the low-flying planes that yes, we too have been having go overhead, Lance.
The head of security for Massport (Logan Airport) was on again, though again what the hell can he say?!
I'm assuming you guys have heard about the communications made from flight 11 I think it was, and that now Canada and England have also closed their airports?

Blood

Call your local Red Cross. Not to sound overly obvious, but for sure they're coordinating the extra donations and seem to have opened up a few extra places to do so (at least, I'm pretty damn sure they've opened several in NY, for example, on top of all the other work they're doing there).
Hope nobody has an accident HERE, cos a lot of the medical types have headed THERE.

Red Cross and more

The Red Cross is now asking people to make donations AFTER THURSDAY. Guess they're just plain overloaded.
Apparently they not only got a radio call saying that two stewardesses had been stabbed, someone with a cellphone actually managed to get through to 911 from the plane to say "we're being hijacked".
They think that the basic plan may just have been brute force. Not guns, just overpowering. Lots of theories being thrown about right now, saying that if it's brute force, if it's at that time of day from some of the world's busiest airports, and of course if you are willing to pull a kamakaze mission... there's not necessarily a lot anyone can do. Though it still seems to me re: the PA crash that someone managed to do SOMETHING.
Right now an APB has just been issued from the Air Force here for two separate cars driven by "men of Middle Eastern descent". No better description than that given on the news, and like Bryan was saying about Dearborn and like others have mentioned about Pearl Harbor, I worry that such an incredibly freakin VAGUE APB might cause more problems than it solves. Hello! It's not like we don't have plenty of people of such "descent" here that came here to GET AWAY from such problems. More Armenians than anywhere else in the world, too, I think (you Detroit kids are the runners-up).
I wildly digress, but it's because I fret, I fret. Please don't let random people get that snot kicked out of them. Please let people who might remotely be suspected stay home.

Re: Now what?

You know what scares me the most? What happens next. If the Us finds out who did this and strikes back. It will probably lead to more terrorist acts against the US. Don't get me wrong, I want each and every pig who did this killed in the worst possible way, but these reactions are usually the beginning of a chainreaction. In a sad way it's all so predictable and totally human. History has a way of repeating itself, because were as human as former generations. The problem is it always ends in destruction and massive lost of life and undescribable pain...............
Holy shit. I can't believe this is happening. My thoughts go out to all of you.

Pearl Harbor?

I've heard a few people mention this incident being a modern day Pearl Harbor. I really don't think it's the same. Pearl Harbor was a military strike against a military base. This was a terrorist attack against two government bases, both of which were infested with civilians. There are also a lot more lives lost this time. Finally, when Pearl Harbor was bombed, the US knew it was the Japs. Right now their clutching at straws while the people cry out for blood.
I don't know what's worse, the attack or all of the people celebrating it in Palastine. WTF? They're dancing around, waving flags, and handing out candy to kids. How ignorant and inhumane can you get? This isn't the 13th century, I thought the world matured a bit.

Re: Now what?

First of all, I just wanted to tell you guys that I'm really touched that you were worried about my well being. It's great to know that there are people all around the country that care a lot about each other. The internet is really amazing that way.
The other thing I wanted to touch on is the idea of killing the perpetrators of these jaw droppingly AWFUL tragedies. As much as I would LOVE to personally skin them alive on national TV, it isn't really a good strategy. Once you kill one crazy fuck, there's another crazier fuck lined up to take his place. At least with the original piece of shit, you can study him and know as much about him as possible in order to combat future acts. Don't get me wrong. I HATE these bastards, but from a strategic point of view, assasination is almost always a bad thing. Usually, it creates martyrs, not deterrents.
Lastly, I just want everyone to take a moment to realize the magnitude of this and that nothing will be the same in the U.S. for a very long time. Pray if your religion dictates that, or at least observe some sacred moment for the people who died today. Also, keep the faith. By that, I mean faith that the world can be a good place, and that we can make it that way. We can change things by first changing ourselves.

-J-
