I guess the International news coverage is full of speculation about what the US is going to do in retaliation. There is great fear that our military is going to lash out in all directions.
If you're praying, please pray that out leaders will have the strength and the wisdom to deal with this the best way possible.

Yes Nutt, everything will be canceld. Every sporting event, concert, whatever will be canceled. Even it they weren't canceled, every flight in the country is grounded. There's no way for people to get there.

I'm wondering if the pilots, faced with an order to crash into a building, chose to down the planes themselves. It would be the humane thing to do. And terribly brave!

I just got off the phone with my sister. Her oldest son, in the navy, was just called back to base. Apparently, they will be flying him and others out to their ships, which I believe are in Middle East waters somewhere.

In this kind of event the most probable scenario is that the planes were hijacked by terrorists who knew how to fligh an airplane of this size, which implies training by either Iran/Iraq/ or Taliban, which are the only countries capable of this thing.

I believe the 3rd and 4th planes may have been downed by the air force - they would have had enough time to assemble.
As for the show tonight, I'll be going if it's still on. We can't be scared to continue with our lives. That allows them to win.

I am speechless... just heard about it all, (I've been in class most of the morning)...
My afternoon class at the univ was cancelled this afternoon, our teacher was in shock... I am feeling very bad too, angry and sad...
How horrible for all those who died and their families... Let us pray and hope that this mess will be handled the best way possible...

Sorry Koggie... but I will not risk it.
The freeways are getting spooky. I just came back from WSU and I-94 was a barren wasteland eastbound. I can't imagine trying to navigate the sidestreets to get there. I'm sorry, but I've heard that rioting in east Dearborn has started. That's the densest population of Arab Americans in the U.S., and the blacks in Detroit are out headhunting. I don't know if this is true, cuz only national news is broadcasting, not local news. I absolutely expected that to happen. Even before I heard it. Drew and Mike on the WRIF are still broadcasting and taking phone calls. I'm trying to call them to get people to call and verify or deny these riots. I wanna know before I try driving anywhere through Detroit.
And if Bin Laden did it, and is hiding in Afghanistan, DROP A NUKE ON THE COUNTRY AND TURN THE SAND TO GLASS!!! I wanna see my face reflected on the ground. If Their government is too stubborn or cowardly to expose Bin Laden, then they are with him. We'll see, but I think the government is gonna react too soon. I wanna make sure the right people die. Not an innocent country and its civilians.
Koggie, please try to find out if the show goes on. I really don't think I'm gonna try to drive down there. But I wanna know first.

I woke with my mom freaking out trying to tell me the news. She didn't have to even speculate where from, you know without being told (even if not so very specifically...)
I first thought of Chewie! No, not that he DID it, sillies. Thoughts to elaborate on this second, just the many past debates.
My second thought was that I immediately began praying, but not in the sense most people here have been referring to. Yea, people are referring to prayer and also referring to vengeance, but I went immediately to "oh, I'm sorry, are you missing the biblical miracles and disaster that've historically happened there?" and started praying fervently for brimstone and lightning on those responsible.
It's being buzzed by the fighter planes and a jet or two that's making me nervous here.
All round not so different a feeling than the onset of the Gulf War, thanks.
Half of our family are in Iceland, they THOUGHT they were coming home tomorrow... truth, they're probably better off right now than anyone else we know.
I think my mom threw up too, I'm not sure.
so sleepy. so confused. so RAGING PISSED OFF. That one woman they interviewed in NYC, woooow, what a speech. And everyone just keeps obsessing on all the people they saw jumping from the World Trade Center.
I too am suspecting that if the pilot of the PA plane were still alive, it was a deliberate crash. Hey, if you're gonna die anyway...
........and Rose, my mom said that in fact Logan has failed SEVERAL recent security tests -- like that they had 50 plants try to get guns through and 49 of them succeeded. One way or the other, SOMEBODY KNEW ahead of time. Somebody did know. Massport, who are in charge of airport type things, are being remarkably quiet as they can. What can they say? "oh shit, fucked up, sorry, heh heh."
The governor here, while everything else has been pretty much called off, has been demanding that nevertheless people go out and vote today (small local election)... says that she thinks this is the strongest and best statement we can make about democracy in the face of terrorism. However, at last check the secretary of state was still arguing with her on this one.

(what was the other thing?) Oh yes, Nostradamus and others have been really clear on describing just such a thing -- and I'm sure that particular prophecy is yet another reason for people to have been so focused on trying to do the World Trade Center wrong for so long, to boot. I've always found that particular line of prophecy to be pretty goddam logical, Doc.

I was thinking of our own Pentagoonieee also, and hoping he is OK.
I'm sure there are people who I work with who have spouses at the Pentagon. Also, I worked on a contract for US Customs 2 years ago, and worked with people in the NY office...in the WTC. Just about everyone in the DC metro area know someone who knows someone. This is just too damn close to home.

Just a moment ago, I'm sitting here in the house, when I hear the huge roar of approching aircraft. For the first few minutes I thought nothing of it, till I remembered that EVERY aircraft in the country is supposed to be grounded and every airport closed. Then I rushed outside to see. I could still hear them but could not see them. They had already passed over the trees.
I called my brother, who lives just outside of Wright-Patt Air Force Base, to see if he heard or saw them as well. He said he seen them, 4 F-16 Fighters each carrying 2 huge red tipped missled, which just took off from Wright-Patt, heading east, most likely for the NY or Washington area. He ran back in to grab his video camera, made it back out in time to catch the last one on video. He said the missles were humongous. And living just outside of Wright-Patt, the planes were still in an upward ascent, so he had a good close up view of them.
