I was teaching kindergarden in Los Angeles on 9/11. There was no way I could discuss this subject breaking my heart with these little ones. I was wishing I had a way to communicate to them the magnitude of what had happened.

Then I remembered..."I can talk about the bravery of firefighters in general terms with them. I had a picture of a flag and a firefighter I put together and we colored it. Most of the children did well on the project-except for one little girl whose scribbled image spoke to me of the chaos of 9/11. She did not know about 9/11 but her picture so reflected the chaos.
